Thugs Set ADC Office Ablaze in Amaechi’s Hometown
Suspected political thugs have burned down an office of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ubima community, located in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Ubima is the hometown of Chibuike Amaechi, a senior figure in the ADC.
According to local reports, the attackers stormed the community late Thursday night, firing shots and setting the party’s local secretariat on fire. Residents said the gunmen shot sporadically across parts of the area during the incident.
Amaechi was expected to visit Ubima on Friday to complete his ward-level registration with the ADC.
Sources said the suspected thugs returned early Friday and set up a roadblock along the Omuawa–Ubima Road. Vehicles carrying ADC supporters or displaying party banners were reportedly stopped from entering the community.
Security personnel later moved into the area, and their intervention helped restore calm. No official casualty figures had been released as of the time of this report.
The incident comes amid rising political tension ahead of the 2027 elections, in which the ADC has positioned itself as a challenger to the administration of Bola Tinubu.
