“This Is a Calculated Attempt to Intimidate Me” – Senator Natasha Confirms Gunmen Attack on Family Home
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has condemned an alleged attack on her family residence in Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State by unknown gunmen. In a statement released Thursday, the embattled lawmaker, who is currently suspended from the Senate over allegations of misconduct, said the assailants appeared to have believed she was present at the house and targeted the property deliberately.
According to the Senator representing Kogi Central, the gunmen vandalized windows in her grandfather’s house in Obeiba-Ihima on Tuesday, April 15, before they were repelled by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and vigilant community members. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan described the incident as a calculated attempt to intimidate her for speaking out against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, whom she recently accused of sexual harassment. She urged the Inspector General of Police to urgently reinstate her security protection, which had been withdrawn amid her suspension from the Senate.
Providing further details, she explained that her younger brother had visited the hometown with contractors to inspect sites for upcoming projects she had facilitated in the senatorial district. The attackers, she alleged, mistakenly believed she was in town and launched the nighttime assault.
Reiterating her commitment to truth and public service, the Senator called on Nigerians to remain calm and support the pursuit of justice. She emphasized that violence and intimidation should not be used as tools against those who choose to speak out or serve their people with integrity.
