“They Thought Wike Would Not Perform” – President Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu disclosed that he faced considerable opposition when appointing Nyesom Wike to his cabinet as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister. Speaking at the commissioning ceremony of the newly named Wole Soyinka Way, an arterial road connecting the Northern Parkway to the Outer Northern Expressway, Tinubu praised Wike’s exceptional performance in the nation’s capital.

Addressing the gathered audience, President Tinubu expressed his gratitude to the FCT Minister and his team for their outstanding contributions to the government’s success in its first year. He highlighted the positive impact of Wike’s work, encapsulated in the popular acronym “WIW—Wike is Working.”

“My heart is full of joy and pride,” Tinubu remarked. “Many doubted Wike’s capabilities, but he has proven them wrong with his tireless dedication and innovative approach. The reforms he recommended have been beneficial, leading to the creation of jobs and the promotion of civil servants to permanent secretaries.”

Reflecting on his decision to appoint Wike despite the naysayers, Tinubu stated, “I made my choice, and Wike did not disappoint. His efforts are a testament to what can be achieved through hard work and creativity.”

The President concluded his speech by celebrating the positive changes in the FCT under Wike’s leadership, drawing a parallel to his earlier remarks during the coastal road flag-off in Lagos. “Today again, I can proudly brag about our accomplishments,” he said.
