“There’ll Be Nationwide Thunderstorms for Three Days,” NiMet Alerts Nigerians

 

 

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather alert, forecasting thunderstorms across the country from Monday, September 23 to Wednesday, September 25, 2024.

 

According to the weather outlook, areas in Sokoto, Kebbi, and Borno states are expected to experience thunderstorms on Monday morning. Later in the day, the storm is predicted to affect more states including Borno, Yobe, Jigawa, Taraba, Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi, Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Sokoto.

 

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, Plateau, and Kwara states are also set to see thunderstorms in the morning hours. NiMet further forecasts isolated thunderstorms over Kwara, FCT, Niger, Benue, and Kogi states during the afternoon and evening.

 

The outlook for southern Nigeria predicts morning rainfall in Oyo, Ondo, Osun, Ekiti, and Ogun states, extending to coastal areas like Lagos, Delta, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa. By evening, thunderstorms are expected to affect parts of Enugu, Edo, Ebonyi, Ondo, Abia, Osun, Imo, Ekiti, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, Rivers, and Lagos.

 

NiMet urged Nigerians to stay cautious and avoid flood-prone areas during this period. Residents and airline operators are advised to regularly check weather updates and adhere to safety advisories issued by relevant authorities.
