There Is No Such Thing as an Honest Mistake” – US Embassy Warns Nigerians of Possible Travel Ban Over Visa Overstays
The United States Embassy in Nigeria has issued a strong warning to travelers about the consequences of overstaying their visas during visits to the U.S. In a post shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the embassy stated unequivocally that “there is no such thing as an honest mistake” when it comes to immigration violations. It further emphasized that consular officers have full access to an individual’s immigration history and will be aware of any past infractions. The embassy cautioned that overstaying a visa could result in a travel ban, urging Nigerians to strictly follow visa rules and departure timelines.
