“There Is No Peace Without Justice” — PDP Warns Fubara Against Defection, Demands Probe of Interim Rule
As Governor Siminalayi Fubara prepares to resume office in Rivers State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on him to remain loyal to the party, resist overtures from the All Progressives Congress (APC), and scrutinize the administration of the state during his six-month suspension under emergency rule.
PDP Deputy National Legal Adviser, Barrister Okechukwu Osuoha, and Deputy National Youth Leader, Timothy Osadolor, emphasized that Fubara’s return should prioritize accountability, party loyalty, and efforts to restore peace and stability to the oil-rich state.
Osuoha explained that Fubara’s suspension followed a constitutionally sanctioned state of emergency declared by the President to prevent a collapse of law and order. He noted that the six-month period has now ended, requiring the Governor to resume his duties immediately.
“Every Nigerian expects a cordial relationship between the Executive and the Legislative arms of Rivers State, between the Governor and the House of Assembly. There must also be a good relationship between him and his political backers. Peace and unity are essential for development,” Osuoha said, urging the Governor to actively engage in PDP activities and affirm his commitment to the party.
Osadolor issued a stronger warning, urging Fubara to resist any pressure to defect to the APC and focus on investigating how Rivers State was managed during the emergency period. He stressed that the interim administrator, Admiral Ibas, who was not elected by the people, should be held accountable if wrongdoing is uncovered.
“The Governor should not fall for calls for political correctness in the name of peace. There is no peace without justice. The interim administrator must face the full weight of the law if misappropriation or abuse of office is discovered,” Osadolor said.
He also cautioned Fubara against vague APC offers, warning that any defection could undermine his mandate and political future. “He must reaffirm his mandate from the Rivers people, resist political inducements, and focus on delivering quality governance based on service,” Osadolor added.
