“The Whole Aim of America’s ‘New Love for Christians’ Is to Create War in Nigeria” – Mahdi Shehu
Public affairs commentator Mahdi Shehu has sharply criticized U.S. President Donald Trump over his recent threat of military action in Nigeria, claiming it is disguised as an effort to protect Christians.
In a post on X late Sunday, Shehu described Trump as a “war monger” and accused the United States of hypocrisy in matters of religion, human rights, and democracy. He dismissed Trump’s claim of defending persecuted Christians in Nigeria as mere pretense.
“There is no better pretender about religion, morality, equality, human rights, justice and democracy than America, and now along with its blood-thirsty Hollywood actor, Trump,” Shehu wrote.
Shehu highlighted America’s domestic struggles, pointing to terror attacks and daily killings of its own citizens, while accusing the U.S. of interfering in other nations under the guise of concern for human rights. He also cited the country’s history of military interventions since 1945, claiming millions of Christians have been killed in conflicts fueled by American interests rather than genuine religious motives.
He warned that Trump’s so-called defense of Christians could escalate religious tensions in Nigeria. “In the process of killing Islamic terrorists in Nigeria, American drones and war planes will end up targeting Islamic clerics, Muslim-dominated settlements, mosques, and madrasas,” he said.
Shehu concluded that America’s actions aim to destabilize Nigeria, install proxies, and exploit the country’s natural resources, comparing U.S. interventions to its involvement in countries such as Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, and others.
He accompanied his post with a photo of Trump in court, suggesting the president was being held accountable for inciting violence and undermining democracy, ending with the words: “The devil is a liar.”
