“The doctor asked why I didn’t go outside to get pregnant instead of with my husband” — Vivian Nkubi

Vivian Nwaogu, wife of actor and media personality Victor “Nkubi” Nwaogu, has spoken about the challenges she faced during her pregnancy and after the birth of their daughter, Soromtochukwu.

The couple, who married in February 2021, welcomed their first child in April 2024.

In an interview with her husband on *Pulse One on One* published on YouTube, Vivian said she received troubling comments from medical staff during her pregnancy after an abnormality scan.

“When I handed the scan to the doctor, she asked if anyone in my family had traits of dwarfism. I said yes, my husband,” Vivian recalled. “The doctor then asked why I didn’t go to my brother-in-law or outside to get pregnant instead, or use a sperm donor.”

Vivian described the remark as deeply upsetting and reflective of discrimination against people with dwarfism.

She said a similar experience occurred after she gave birth at a Lagos hospital. According to her, a nurse suggested that her daughter’s condition was “spiritual” and offered to connect her with a pastor who could pray for the child to “be tall.”

“She told me about someone who had a child with a little person and claimed the baby became tall after prayers,” Vivian said. “This was a trained nurse. It traumatised me throughout my postnatal care.”

Vivian also addressed the criticism their family faced online after they introduced their daughter on social media. She said the decision to delay sharing photos of the child was due to health concerns, not secrecy.

“Our baby was healthy at birth, but three months later she became very ill and was in a coma for seven days,” she said. “We wanted her to recover before showing her to the public.”

She said the backlash that followed was painful, with some people making offensive remarks about the child’s appearance. Vivian admitted that she sometimes screenshots and reposts such comments on her page as a way of confronting the abuse.

“It’s really heartbreaking for me,” she said.
