The Consequences Will Be Huge if Nigeria Keeps Neglecting the South-East – Joe Igbokwe

All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Lagos State, Joe Igbokwe, has raised concerns over what he described as the persistent neglect of Nigeria’s South-East region, warning that such continued marginalization could lead to serious consequences. In a statement shared via his Facebook account on Saturday, Igbokwe expressed frustration with the current state of affairs, particularly in light of recent controversies surrounding federal appointments under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

The appointments have sparked criticism from various quarters, including Senator Ali Ndume of Borno South, who accused the administration of a lopsided approach that could have adverse effects. The presidency, however, has maintained that its appointments are strictly based on merit.

Responding to the ongoing debate, Igbokwe emphasized the historical and emotional weight of the issue. “If Nigeria continues to treat the South-East as if the zone does not exist or does not matter, the consequences will be huge. The civil war has ended, but the scars are still there. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. Neglect of SE is bad,” he stated.
