“Terrorists now use Keke to deliver bombs” — Ndume

Borno South Senator Ali Ndume has raised concerns over evolving tactics adopted by terrorist and bandit groups in Nigeria, including the use of unconventional methods to move explosive devices and the presence of informants within communities.

Ndume made the remarks during an appearance on a programme on Channels Television, where he discussed recent patterns in attacks and the operational strategies of armed groups across Nigeria.

According to him, these groups now rely on coordinated “hit-and-run” operations, supported by local intelligence networks that enable them to identify targets and withdraw quickly after attacks.

He stated that some of the information used to plan operations is sourced from individuals within affected communities, describing the involvement of informants as a key factor sustaining such activities.

Ndume also pointed to the use of commercial tricycles, commonly known as Keke Napep, as a means of transporting explosive devices to intended locations. He said recent incidents indicate that attackers are adapting civilian transport systems to avoid suspicion while moving materials.

Beyond logistics, the senator noted that members of these groups are becoming increasingly visible online, with some documenting and sharing their actions through social media platforms. He described this as evidence of growing boldness among perpetrators.

Ndume attributed the persistence of these security challenges to gaps in intelligence gathering and coordination. He called for stronger surveillance systems and improved information-sharing mechanisms to detect and disrupt planned attacks before they occur.

He added that understanding the operational behavior of such groups is essential to countering their activities, particularly their ability to infiltrate communities, execute attacks, and retreat without immediate interception.
