Terrorists Abduct Unspecified Number of Passengers in Prolonged Attack on Wawa–Luma Road in Niger State
Armed men abducted an unspecified number of travellers on the Wawa–Luma Road in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State on Monday, according to accounts from residents who witnessed the incident. The attack reportedly began around 4 p.m. and continued for about three hours without security intervention.
Local sources said two passenger vehicles travelling to Gupanti and Lumma were forced to stop and all occupants were taken away. Another car heading to Papiri was shot at, though the driver managed to escape. Witnesses noted that the attackers moved in on motorcycles, with three armed men on each bike. Among those taken was identified as Mallam Umaru from Luma-Sanke.
Residents reported that the armed group split into separate units. Some were seen around Kale, others advanced toward the Konkoje area and the Wawa–Kaiama route, while another group moved along the Wawa–Luma stretch.
Efforts to contact the Niger State Police Command spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, were unsuccessful as calls did not go through.
