Terror Attack on Kwara Church Leaves Three Dead, Pastor and Worshippers Abducted
A violent attack on a Christ Apostolic Church congregation in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, left three people dead on Tuesday evening and several others abducted, including the pastor.
Witnesses said the gunmen entered the church during a meeting and opened fire immediately, sending worshippers scrambling for safety. Three people died on the spot. The attackers then seized an undetermined number of congregants and forced them into the nearby bush.
Residents reported that the gunmen retreated through footpaths linking Eruku with surrounding communities, heightening alarm across the area. Earlier that evening, the same group was seen entering the town through a major access road while firing continuously, causing travellers and locals to abandon their vehicles and run for cover.
A traveller caught in the incident recorded a brief video while hiding in the bush. Gunshots echoed in the background as he described the sudden eruption of violence and the widespread flight of people seeking safety.
Sources said the attackers moved through multiple communities without resistance, leaving residents unsettled and unsure of the scale of the abductions. Security agencies have not yet issued a formal statement, and state authorities have also remained silent as the situation continues to develop.
