Teacher Stabs 8-Year-Old Student to Death in Daejeon
A female teacher in her 40s fatally stabbed an eight-year-old student at an elementary school in Daejeon on Tuesday, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Authorities reported that after attacking the child, the teacher inflicted wounds on herself. Police discovered both individuals with stab injuries on the second floor of the school building around 6 p.m. The discovery came after the student’s parent reported her missing from an after-school art class.
Emergency responders rushed the unconscious girl to a hospital, but she later succumbed to her injuries. The teacher, who sustained stab wounds to her neck and arm, remained conscious and was taken in for medical treatment.
During questioning, police said the teacher admitted to the crime and suggested she might have harmed herself afterward. Investigators revealed that the child had been at the school for an after-class childcare session before heading to a private art class.
Authorities also found that the teacher had previously taken a leave of absence due to depression and had returned to work late last year. She has since undergone surgery for her injuries, and police plan to resume questioning once she recovers.
