Taiwo Oyedele Speaks on Alleged Suspension of Tax Laws
The Nigerian government has denied reports claiming that the release of implementation guidelines for recent tax reforms has been suspended.
Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, called the reports “fake news” in a post on X on Thursday.
The clarification comes amid circulating claims that the rollout of the tax reform guidelines, introduced just two weeks ago, had been paused.
The new tax laws have sparked debate across the country, with calls for suspension from figures including Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and the Nigeria Labour Congress.
Despite the controversy, Zacch Adedeji, Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, reiterated in a TVC interview that the tax reforms would not be suspended, emphasizing that they are designed to benefit Nigerians.
