“Sylva Will Appear Before EFCC After His Medicals in the UK” — Spokesman
Timipre Sylva, former governor of Bayelsa State and immediate past Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, will present himself to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) once he completes his medical treatment in the United Kingdom, his spokesman, Julius Bokoru, has said.
In a statement on Monday, Bokoru criticised the EFCC for declaring Sylva wanted without first issuing a formal invitation, describing the move as hasty and politically driven.
He said although he was not in direct contact with Sylva, his principal would honour the agency’s invitation out of respect for lawful institutions and due process.
Bokoru accused certain political interests of orchestrating a sustained campaign to discredit Sylva, adding that the former minister had not diverted public funds or engaged in any wrongdoing. He maintained that the refinery project under investigation was transparent and fully documented.
He expressed confidence that the truth would prevail, stressing that the alleged attempts to tarnish Sylva’s image would not succeed.
