Supporters storm GEJ’s residence, demand he runs in 2023
Scores of supporters arrived in buses at the Maitama residence of former President Goodluck Jonathan, demanding that he runs in the 2023 election.
One of the youths who spoke to AIT said they are searching for a trustworthy leader, and that Jonathan fits the bill.
A spokesman for the group, Mayor Samuel, who is also the convener of the Youth Compatriots of Nigeria said, “We were deceived and brainwashed by those who claimed they could do it in 2015.
“Now, we know better, under Jonathan the minimum wage could buy one or two bags of rice. What do we have today? We are begging President Jonathan to forgive us, we have realized our mistakes, we want him back to complete what he started.”
This comes a day after a support group gave the former President a 24-hour ultimatum to declare.
Jonathan has been coy on whether he will join the race.
There have been reported overtures from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, the party that ousted him from office in 2015.
Despite media reports, Jonathan has been silent, neither denying nor confirming it.
