Super Eagles’ Star Battles Food Poisoning Ahead of Crucial AFCON 2023 Clash with Côte d’Ivoire

Super Eagles’ talented fullback, Bright Osayi-Samuel, has disclosed that he fell victim to food poisoning earlier this week, throwing his participation in the upcoming Group A clash against Côte d’Ivoire into uncertainty.

Osayi-Samuel, who started on the bench in the team’s previous match against Equatorial Guinea, revealed that he had been looking forward to making his full AFCON debut in the crucial encounter on Thursday. However, his plans have been thrown into disarray as the Fenerbahce star now grapples with the aftermath of food poisoning, leaving him weakened just a day before the anticipated match.

Head coach Jose Peseiro had initially opted for Ola Aina in the starting XI for the 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea. Still, Osayi-Samuel came off the bench in the second half, showcasing his determination to contribute to the team’s pursuit of a second goal.

Speaking to reporters about his unexpected setback, Osayi-Samuel acknowledged, “I got food poisoning. Today, I’m a bit weak, but I should be okay.”

As the Super Eagles face the challenge of Côte d’Ivoire, the availability of Osayi-Samuel remains uncertain, adding an element of suspense to Nigeria’s campaign in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
