Suicide Bomber Kills Five Soldiers in Borno State

At least five soldiers were killed on Sunday after a suspected suicide bomber attacked a military checkpoint in Pulka, near Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

The Nigerian Army has not issued an official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report. However, a security source and local media accounts confirmed that the attack occurred in the early hours of the day.

According to the source, the bomber evaded security screening and infiltrated the area under the cover of darkness. He reportedly made his way to a military checkpoint from the Mandara Hills and hid behind sandbags throughout the night.

The source said the attacker remained concealed until morning when soldiers arrived to man the checkpoint. He then approached the troops and detonated an explosive device strapped to his body, killing five soldiers instantly along with himself.

The area around Gwoza and Pulka has remained a hotspot for attacks linked to Boko Haram and ISWAP factions, despite sustained military operations aimed at degrading terrorist activities in the region.
