Sudan: FG To Secure Placement For Evacuated Students In Nigerian Higher Institutions
The Federal Government has informed Nigerian students who were evacuated from war-torn Sudan that there are plans to secure placement for them in their respective courses in Nigeria with the support of the Ministry of Education.
In a statement, yesterday, the Head of Media, Public Relations, and Protocols NIDCOM, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, said the evacuees, the fourth batch of 131 persons comprising 123 adults and 8 infants, who arrived in Abuja at 2.35 pm, were told that no Nigerian will be left behind in war-torn Sudan as President Muhammadu Buhari has given the committee the necessary support to bring back home any willing Nigerians.
He said that another flight is expected today (Sunday) as the government was about to conclude all the necessary clearance for them to take off, just as three evacuees that sustained injuries were moved to the hospital.
According to him, in line with the traditional support laid down, each of the returnees was given N100,000 and a bag courtesy of Dangote Foundation while MTN supported with a Sim pack and call credit of N25,000 as well as 1.5 G Data.
He also said that most of the students interviewed regretted the war situation in Sudan, thanking the Federal Government for coming promptly to their rescue, but pleaded that urgent steps be taken to hasten the evacuation of their colleagues still trapped in the war zone in Sudan.
Those who received the evacuees include Chairman/CEO NIDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Dr Sani Gwarzo; Representative of Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mustapha Habeeb; Representative of Refugees Commissioner, Mrs. Iman Ibrahim as well as other stakeholders who provided logistics support like Nigeria Immigration Service, Dangote Foundation, MTN and Hajia Asmau Yerima Mohammed representing Association of Parents and Guardian of Students in Sudan.
