“Students Who Miss School on Mondays Risk Suspension” – Anambra Government
The Anambra State Government has warned that students who fail to attend school on Mondays may face a one-week suspension, in a bid to enforce consistent academic activity across the state.
The directive was issued by Commissioner for Education, Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, during a meeting on Wednesday, March 4, with management teams from Mount Olive Schools and Springfield Academy GRA in Onitsha.
Chuma-Udeh said the warning followed instructions from Governor Chukwuma Soludo to ensure schools operate fully on Mondays. The two schools were summoned to explain reports of noncompliance with the government’s attendance directive.
“This measure reflects the State Government’s commitment to ensuring full resumption of academic activities on Mondays across Anambra. Schools are expected to comply,” the commissioner said.
Management from Mount Olive Schools reported improved attendance in recent weeks, while Springfield Academy noted some parents remain hesitant to send their children on Mondays. Both schools pledged to intensify efforts to improve early-week attendance.
