Students Set Principal’s House on Fire Over NECO Exam Scandal
Tension erupted in Saghev Ward, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, as final-year students of Gyutiev Model College allegedly set fire to the house of their principal, Mr. Isaac Yina, in the early hours of Friday, June 27, 2025. According to local sources, the students became enraged after discovering their names were missing from the official list for the 2025 National Examination Council (NECO) exams.
The students claim they each paid N85,000 to Mr. Yina for exam registration, but he failed to complete the process. Witnesses reported that a crowd of students gathered outside the principal’s residence before setting it ablaze, destroying property worth millions of naira.
Community leaders and local authorities have condemned the incident, calling for calm and promising a full investigation into the allegations of fraud against Mr. Yina. Security operatives have also been deployed to prevent further unrest.
