Student Stabbed to Death Over Football Argument at Federal University Kashere
A student from the Federal University Kashere was fatally stabbed following a heated argument over a football match on Tuesday night. The incident occurred off-campus and led to the death of Abdussamad Musa, a 200-level student of Criminology and Security Studies.
Gombe Police Command spokesperson ASP Buhari Abdullahi confirmed on Friday that 14 suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder. Four additional suspects remain at large. The knife used in the attack has been recovered, and an investigation is underway.
According to Abdullahi, the police are actively pursuing the remaining suspects and have implemented measures to prevent further violence and protect property as directed by the state’s commissioner of police, Hayatu Usman. He urged youths and residents to avoid public discussions that could lead to conflicts, emphasizing that football is meant to entertain and not incite violence.
Janet Ibrahim, the Public Relations Officer of Federal University Kashere, provided additional details about the incident. She explained that the conflict arose from a minor disagreement between two groups after a football match. Although the disagreement was initially resolved, one group later attacked the residence of the deceased, leading to a fatal altercation. Musa was stabbed in the neck and, despite being rushed to the general hospital in Kashere, he succumbed to excessive bleeding.
Ibrahim noted that Musa’s parents were present for his funeral service on Wednesday. She reassured that normalcy has returned to the community and highlighted that while the university does not control off-campus activities, it is working with security agencies and community leaders to ensure the safety of its students.
