“Stop Using My Name to Spread Falsehoods” – Okonjo-Iweala Warns Simon Ekpa

Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), has issued a strong warning to Simon Ekpa, a controversial Biafra separatist, urging him to stop using her name to spread false claims.

Ekpa had posted on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had agreed to loan $57.5 billion to the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE). In the now-deleted post, he also alleged that Okonjo-Iweala had helped facilitate the loan.

Ekpa wrote, “The World Bank and IMF have agreed to loan the sum of $57.5 billion to Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE) to form our government after December 2nd, 2024 declaration of Biafra. I thank our sister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, for helping me to facilitate the loan.”

In response, Okonjo-Iweala debunked the claims on her official X account, labeling the post as completely false. She emphasized the importance of addressing the issue, especially in uncertain times, and appealed to those misusing her name to stop.

“I know no sensible person will believe what is contained in the outrageous tweet, but in these troubled times, it is important to underscore that the statement is false. Again, I enjoin all those seeking to misuse my name to desist!” she posted.
