“Stop Mocking President Tinubu’s Fall; Focus on a New Nigeria” – Peter Obi
In the wake of President Bola Tinubu’s fall during the Democracy Day celebrations on Wednesday, Labour Party’s Peter Obi has called for compassion and unity among Nigerians.
Peter Obi, expressing his concern on Twitter, stated, “I was saddened to learn of President Tinubu’s unfortunate fall today. I wish him well. We achieve nothing by gloating about an accident that could well happen to any of us.”
Mr. Obi, a former presidential candidate who contested against President Tinubu in the 2023 elections, emphasized the importance of focusing on issues that will foster a new Nigeria. “May this moment serve as a poignant reminder of our shared humanity and the need for compassion, empathy, and unity in our pursuit of a brighter future for our great nation,” he said.
The incident occurred as President Tinubu attempted to climb the parade truck, resulting in mixed reactions across the nation. However, presidential media aide Dada Olusegun assured the public that President Tinubu was fine, describing the fall as a “mild misstep and no issue.”
Another media aide, Bayo Onanuga, highlighted that slips and falls are a common human occurrence, mentioning similar incidents involving other world leaders. “President Tinubu is not a Superman. He is human like all of us,” Onanuga said. “President Biden has had several slips in the last three years. Even the younger Barack Obama slipped while President. Political leaders are human. Slipping should not detract from the import of Democracy Day celebration.”
Similarly, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party expressed his sympathy for President Tinubu and inquired about his well-being.
As Nigerians reflect on the incident, Mr. Obi’s call for empathy and unity resonates, urging the nation to stay focused on the collective goal of building a new Nigeria.
