South Korea Offers Residents $35,000 for Dating, Marriage
In response to the country’s rapidly declining birth rate, South Korea has introduced a new initiative aimed at boosting marriage and family formation. The Saha District in Busan is now offering residents up to $38,000 as an incentive for dating and getting married, in an effort to counteract the nation’s demographic challenges.
With South Korea facing the world’s lowest fertility rate, currently at a record low of 0.72 children per woman, this program is part of a larger strategy to reverse the population decline. The initiative is designed to make starting a family more financially feasible and to foster meaningful relationships through a series of social events that bring together like-minded individuals.
This financial incentive is one of several measures being implemented across the country to address the demographic crisis, encouraging young people to take steps towards marriage and family life in hopes of stabilizing the population.
