South-East Elders Back Tinubu for 2027 Re-Election, Cite Regional Gains

A political support group in Enugu State, under the South-East Elders Alliance for Tinubu 2027, Enugu North Senatorial District chapter, has declared its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid. At an inauguration event held in Nsukka, the group praised the President for what they described as significant political inclusion and appointments benefitting the South-East, particularly the Enugu North zone.

According to a communiqué signed by key conveners—Hon. Humphrey Nsofor, Prof. Damian Opata, Prof. Chuka Ezema, and Dr. Anthony Alumona—the group pledged full loyalty to the national body and endorsed the ten reasons earlier presented by the Alliance for supporting Tinubu’s re-election. They emphasized that Enugu North had never seen such levels of federal appointments in any previous administration.

They listed several prominent appointments made by President Tinubu, including Vice-Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla as Chief of Naval Staff, Frank Mba as Deputy Inspector General of Police, and Prof. Melvin D. Ayogu to the Board of the Central Bank of Nigeria. Other appointees from the Nsukka zone include Dr. Mrs. Amaka Onu and Hon. Favour Nkem Asogwa to federal polytechnic boards, Chief Eva Asadu to the Anambra-Imo River Basin, and Major General E. I. Okoro as Military Secretary of the Nigerian Army. The group also highlighted the appointment of Prof. Iliyasu Usman as the first Igbo Imam of the Central Mosque, Abuja.

While expressing gratitude, the elders urged the President to initiate an Executive Bill to amend the constitution for the creation of new states, noting that doing so would mark a historic achievement for his administration. They also called on Tinubu to address the worsening economic situation by stabilizing the naira, refining the fuel subsidy programme, and curbing inflation, especially the rising cost of food.

On national security, the group proposed the establishment of a digital response unit within the Nigerian security system, suggesting the country’s pool of tech-savvy experts could be harnessed to counter growing insecurity.

In conclusion, the alliance appealed to Nigerians to support President Tinubu’s re-election to complete the South’s eight-year mandate, which they argued would foster national unity and reduce tension over the 2027 presidential race. They expressed prayers for continued divine guidance for Tinubu’s administration.
