Sokoto Community Guard Accidentally Kills Self After Rescuing Kidnap Victims

An operative of the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps tragically lost his life due to an accidental gun discharge shortly after participating in a joint operation that successfully rescued 66 kidnap victims. The operation, led by the Nigerian Army, took place on Monday at the Tidibali Forest in the eastern part of Sokoto State.

Confirming the incident, Colonel Ahmed Usman (rtd), Special Adviser to Governor Ahmed Aliyu on Security, stated that the operative had just returned to base when the mishap occurred. “The incident happened shortly after they had returned to their base from the operation. He was with his gun when it mistakenly discharged, fatally wounding him,” Usman said.

The joint operation is part of a broader effort sponsored by the Sokoto State government to combat banditry and other criminal activities. According to Usman, the initiative has already yielded significant successes, with 66 kidnap victims rescued and several bandits neutralized.

“This is an ongoing operation aimed at ridding Sokoto State of criminal elements, particularly bandits,” Usman noted.

Residents of Isa Local Government Area confirmed that the rescued victims were brought to Isa town following the operation.
