“So Sad”: Nigerian Govt Sacks Workers with Benin Republic Degrees – Shehu Sani
The Nigerian government has dismissed employees who obtained their degrees from universities in the Benin Republic, according to former senator and activist Shehu Sani.
In a statement shared on his official X account on Monday, Sani expressed shock over the development, saying, “So sad to read the termination letters of some of the FG staff who graduated from the universities in Benin Republic.” He did not elaborate on the reasons behind the dismissals.
This decision comes in the wake of controversies surrounding fake certificates from Benin Republic universities earlier this year. A Nigerian journalist, Umar Audu, previously revealed that he purchased a degree from a Benin Republic institution for N600,000, prompting the Nigerian government to suspend recognition of such qualifications.
Additionally, the government blacklisted 18 foreign universities operating in Nigeria as part of efforts to curb fraudulent academic practices.
