Six Allegedly Killed in Renewed Edo Cult War
In a disturbing escalation of cult-related violence, six people have reportedly been killed in Auchi and South Ibie communities, located in the Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State. The killings are the latest in a renewed wave of cult clashes involving rival groups.
According to sources, the violent confrontation, which unfolded over the past week, involves the Eiye, Vikys, and Black Axe confraternities. The ongoing battle for supremacy among these groups has also resulted in several others being injured.
The conflict, which initially began between the Eiye and Vikys cults, soon escalated to involve the Black Axe group. Reports indicate that one member of the Black Axe was mistakenly shot during a confrontation at a hotel, further intensifying the violence.
The first casualties of the conflict were reported last Sunday, with two victims confirmed dead. Over the following days, four more individuals were killed, bringing the total death toll to six.
The violent clashes have also reportedly spread to a university community in the state. Students were said to be sitting for their second-semester exams when the conflict erupted. One of the victims, reportedly a driver, was brutally murdered in broad daylight last Thursday. Witnesses say that after multiple failed gunshots, the assailants tied the victim to their vehicle and dragged him along the road until he succumbed to his injuries.
When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, SP Moses Yamu, confirmed the incident but did not provide a precise casualty figure. Yamu reassured the public that the situation is now under control and that an investigation is ongoing.
