Sister Allegedly Stabs Brother to Death on Mother’s Instructions
A deadly confrontation in Calabar’s Marian Market has left the community in shock after a young man was reportedly stabbed to death by his elder sister during a clash allegedly triggered by their mother.
The incident occurred over the weekend when the victim, described by witnesses as appearing disoriented, arrived at his mother’s fish stall. Traders said he frequently struggled with drug addiction, including a dangerous mix known locally as “Ice,” and often became aggressive when under the influence.
According to several women who trade near the stall, an argument broke out shortly after he arrived to assist his mother. They claimed the woman had long complained about her son’s violent outbursts, alleging he had attempted to assault and rape her in the past.
Witnesses said the elder sister arrived in the midst of the dispute, and the mother allegedly instructed her to stab him. Moments later, the young man collapsed, bleeding heavily.
Before help could reach him, his condition worsened. Realising the gravity of the situation, both mother and daughter reportedly tried to flee, but nearby traders held the mother until police arrived. The daughter escaped.
One trader said panic spread among them as they feared being implicated if the family fled, prompting them to restrain the mother and contact authorities. Police officers later took the woman into custody, with one eyewitness stating she was made to carry her son’s body while waiting for transport.
The mother allegedly told fellow traders that she acted out of fear, insisting her son had frequently threatened her while intoxicated.
Efforts to reach DSP Igri Ewa, Deputy Police Public Relations Officer of the Cross River State Command, were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
