Sinach’s “Waymaker” Becomes Global Hit Courtesy Micheal W. Smith

The song “Waymaker” originally written by Nigeria’s gospel artist Sinach, presently tops the Billboard’s Christian Airplay Chart. More than 18million people have viewed a live audio version of the song on YouTube.

Fans all over the world, have been reaching out to Micheal W. Smith to thank him for the song, as the song has been considered by many as a “nerve soother” at these Covid-19 times.

Micheal W. Smith in his response says “I’m getting most of the feedback from these concerts. It is amazing. I feel like I’m playing in stadium with 100,000 people tuning in from around the world. I read so many comments about “Waymaker” and people are quoting the lyrics”.

He however, confesses saying “I didn’t write the song, a woman from Nigeria, an artist named Sinach, wrote it”.

He further states that “I discovered the song through my daughter, Anna, who was going through a bit of trial in her life. She asked me if I had heard the song “Waymaker” and I said No. So, she played it for me and I ended up recording it”.

Micheal W. Smith is an accomplished artist in contemporary Christian music. This is his 36th No1 song. He has won 3 Grammys, 45Dove awards, and has sold more than 15million albums.

The huge questions now are:

For this massive feat with “Waymaker”, did Nigeria’s Sinach get any mention?

Would Sinach be entitled to any monetary accruals or royalties from whatever Micheal W. Smith gets from the song?
