“Simon Ekpa’s Arrest Well Deserved” – Tinubu Praises Finland

President Bola Tinubu has commended the Finnish government for the arrest and detention of Biafra agitator Simon Ekpa, describing the action as well deserved. He reiterated Nigeria’s stance against any form of divisive activities that threaten national unity.

Speaking at the State House while receiving the Letters of Credence from Finland’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Ms. Sanna Selin, Tinubu acknowledged the Finnish authorities for their swift intervention, stating that it safeguarded Nigeria’s integrity and prevented potential threats to peaceful coexistence.

During the event, the President also received Letters of Credence from the Ambassador of the European Union, Mr. Gautier Mignot, and the Ambassador of Algeria, Mr. Hocine Mezoued. Addressing the diplomats, Tinubu emphasized the importance of national unity and adherence to the rule of law. He thanked the Finnish government for upholding human rights in handling Ekpa’s case and stressed that Nigeria remains an indivisible entity committed to stability and development.

Tinubu noted that his administration prioritizes national cohesion over divisiveness, adding that Nigeria is implementing key reforms to stimulate economic growth. He expressed appreciation for Finland’s support in various sectors, including ICT, agriculture, and education, as well as humanitarian aid in the North-East.

Ambassador Selin commended Tinubu’s leadership and ongoing economic reforms, stating that bilateral relations between Finland and Nigeria are improving. She also highlighted the role of Nigeria’s National Security Adviser in providing critical evidence regarding Ekpa’s activities, which had been a source of tension between both nations.
