Simon Ekpa Is Just a Finland-Based Content Creator, Not Our Member – IPOB
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has reiterated its disassociation from Simon Ekpa, describing him as a Finland-based content creator with no ties to the organization. In a statement issued on Sunday by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, IPOB also distanced itself from the so-called Biafran government in exile, including its detained prime minister.
Emma Powerful cautioned media outlets and the public against linking Simon Ekpa or his associates to IPOB, emphasizing that they are not, and never have been, members of the group. “Simon Ekpa is a self-confessed content creator and the head of a group of social media content creators known as Autopilots, which were never part of the IPOB structure,” the statement read. IPOB warned against what it called “persistent efforts” to associate Ekpa with the organization, describing such actions as misleading and damaging to its cause.
The statement further clarified IPOB’s goals, stating that its pursuit of self-determination remains anchored in a peaceful approach through a United Nations-supervised referendum. “IPOB and its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, are distinct from these individuals and their activities,” Powerful asserted. He criticized any attempts by media outlets to connect IPOB with what he called “clueless and uninformed individuals masquerading as Autopilots.”
Emma Powerful urged journalists and commentators to conduct proper research before making associations, accusing some of promoting false narratives to undermine IPOB’s peaceful mission. He emphasized that IPOB remains focused on achieving Biafra through legitimate and internationally recognized means.
