Seyi Tinubu Urges Nigerians to Endure Hunger Despite Lavish Lifestyle
Amid soaring food prices and economic challenges in Nigeria, Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, appeals for support for his father’s government despite his extravagant lifestyle.
In a recent Instagram post, Mr. Tinubu, known for wearing a $550,000 wristwatch and previously criticized for flying a presidential jet, urged Nigerians to endure current hardships, quoting his father’s belief in a better future.
However, some followers questioned the practicality of faith, with comments like, “Na faith we go use buy foodstuffs and pay bills?” and doubts about Tinubu understanding the struggles of the masses.
Protests erupted in Ibadan over the high cost of living, with chants of ‘Tinubu ole!’ as placard-carrying demonstrators expressed discontent with the president’s policies. Similar protests occurred in Niger, Kano, Osun, and Lagos, reflecting widespread dissatisfaction with the economic situation.
Over the past nine months, staple food prices have surged nearly 100%, exacerbated by President Tinubu’s removal of the petrol subsidy and the Central Bank of Nigeria’s decision to float the naira. These policies, while praised by experts, have led to a drastic increase in petrol prices and a sharp decline of the naira against the dollar in the parallel market.
