“Seyi Tinubu Is Doing What Most Children of Presidents Never Did” – APC Chieftain
Isaac Balami, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has spoken out in strong defence of Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, amidst a wave of criticism over his recent tour of northern states during the Ramadan season. Balami praised Seyi Tinubu for his ongoing humanitarian efforts, stating that he is doing what most children of past presidents never attempted.
Seyi Tinubu has faced backlash following his philanthropic visits to northern communities, including an Iftar outreach in Bauchi State. Critics, including Shamsuddeen Bala Mohammed, son of the Bauchi State governor, accused him of reducing local youths to beggars through handouts. The younger Tinubu also sparked controversy by describing his father as the greatest president in Nigeria’s history.
In response, Balami issued a statement on Monday defending Seyi’s actions and attributing the criticism to political motives. He suggested that growing calls for Seyi Tinubu to run for Lagos State governor in 2027 might have triggered a coordinated campaign against him. Balami argued that rather than attacking Seyi, Nigerians should commend his commitment to national unity and humanitarian work.
He noted that Seyi’s Iftar initiatives began 10 to 15 years ago, well before Bola Tinubu became president, and questioned why his continued efforts should now be seen as inappropriate. Balami challenged those questioning Seyi’s intentions, asking what harm there could be if a president’s son chose to support those in need during a spiritual period like Ramadan.
Highlighting the significance of Seyi’s outreach, Balami said his actions represent not just personal goodwill but a broader victory for Nigerian youth. He called on young politicians and entrepreneurs to emulate Seyi’s example instead of discouraging him. He also pointed out that over half the staff in Seyi’s organisation are northerners, showing his commitment to inclusivity and national unity.
Balami concluded by urging Nigerians not to overlook the powerful message Seyi Tinubu continues to send through his consistent philanthropic efforts, describing him as grounded and genuinely concerned with the well-being of others—traits, he said, uncommon among the children of past leaders.
