Several Terrorists Killed as Troops Repel Attacks on Military Bases in Adamawa, Borno

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have repelled coordinated terrorist attacks on military bases in Adamawa and Borno states, killing several assailants, the Nigerian Army has said.

In a statement issued on Friday, the acting media information officer of Operation Hadin Kai, S.A. Atokolo, said the attacks occurred in the early hours of the day and were successfully contained by ground troops with support from air assets.

According to Atokolo, terrorists attempted to overrun a patrol base at Sabon Gari in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State, under Sector 4 of the operation. Troops at the base engaged the attackers, while reinforcements from Gulak and the battalion’s quick reaction force were deployed.

The combined response forced the attackers to withdraw. No casualties were recorded among the troops, Atokolo said.

He added that soldiers subsequently cleared the surrounding area and carried out checks for improvised explosive devices and booby traps to ensure the safety of personnel and nearby communities.

In a separate incident, terrorists launched a multi-directional attack on the Forward Operating Base at Azir in Borno State. Atokolo said parts of the base’s defensive perimeter were initially breached.

Troops, supported by the air component of Operation Hadin Kai and other army aerial platforms, repelled the attack after a firefight lasting more than an hour.

During the exchange, rocket-propelled grenade fire from the attackers damaged troop-carrying vehicles and the base’s CCTV control room, which were partially destroyed by fire.

Atokolo said the troops maintained control of the base and recovered weapons and ammunition, including a 60mm mortar tube, mortar bombs, locally made explosives, heavy machine gun rounds, and hundreds of rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition.

He said intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance platforms tracked the retreating terrorists, leading to follow-up air strikes along their withdrawal routes.

According to the army, additional terrorists were killed during the air strikes.
