Several Students Injured as Kwara Secondary Schools’ Clash Turns Violent

In Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, a violent altercation between students from two secondary schools has resulted in multiple injuries. The clash, which occurred on Monday, involved students from Government High School and Government Day Secondary School, both located in the Adeta area of the city. Witnesses report that over 10 students sustained injuries during the melee.

The fight, reportedly sparked by a prior disagreement, escalated around 11 a.m., causing chaos in the vicinity. According to a witness, the incident appears to have been a reprisal attack stemming from a conflict that began two weeks earlier. “More than ten students were wounded in the melee that threw the area into pandemonium,” the witness explained.

Speculations are circulating that the confrontation may be linked to cult-related activities and a struggle for dominance among the students.

When contacted, Peter Amogbonjaye, the Press Secretary for the state Ministry of Education, stated that an official statement on the matter was forthcoming. Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the incident and disclosed that several suspects had been apprehended in batches during police interventions at the scene. She added that investigations are ongoing to uncover the root cause of the violence.
