Senator Elisha Abbo Accuses Senate President Akpabio of Orchestrating His Sack; Warns Orji Kalu, 3 Others May Follow
Senator Elisha Abbo, the ousted Nigerian federal lawmaker from Adamawa State representing the Adamawa North senatorial district, has pointed fingers at Senate President Godswill Akpabio, alleging his involvement in the nullification of Abbo’s election at the Court of Appeal.
This revelation comes in the wake of a recent ruling by the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, which declared Senator Abbo’s election void. The court ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the Certificate of Return issued to Senator Abbo and reissue it to Rev. Amos Yohanna Kumai of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Senator Abbo, taking to his verified Facebook page, responded to the Monday judgment by saying, “The Court of Appeal in Abuja just voided my election. The gang-up has temporarily worked. I will soon address the press.”
During a press conference at his location, Senator Abbo went further, asserting that four other senators who opposed the ascension of Akpabio as Senate President are also at risk of being removed from the Red Chamber through legal proceedings.
Notably, he singled out Senator Orji Uzor Kalu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), representing Abia North, as the next target for removal. Abbo stated, “I have it from a reliable source that myself and four other senators within the fold of the ruling APC will be removed from the Senate through rulings from the courts, all because of working against the emergence of Akpabio as President of the 10th Senate. I won’t mention the names of all the four other ones targeted, but the next in line is Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.”
Expressing his astonishment, Senator Abbo cited his substantial margin of victory over his closest rival, Yohanna Amos Yohanna of the Peoples Democratic Party in the election, questioning the Appeal Court’s decision. He emphasized the importance of the judiciary remaining “the last hope of the common man.”
Despite the setback, Abbo encouraged his supporters to remain calm and vowed to recontest in 2027. As of now, efforts to obtain a response from Senate President Akpabio regarding the allegations have not been successful.
