Senate Urges Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to Follow Rules After Refusal to Stand for Akpabio
The Nigerian Senate has called on Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to adhere to the legislative body’s established rules after she refused to stand for Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s entrance into the chamber.
During Thursday’s plenary session, Senate Chief Whip Mohammed Monguno raised a point of order, citing Order 55(1), which mandates that all senators must stand when the Senate President is ushered in by the Sergeant-at-Arms. Monguno expressed regret over Akpoti-Uduaghan’s decision to remain seated on both Wednesday and Thursday, emphasizing that the Senate’s rules must be respected.
He stressed that personal differences should not override institutional protocols, urging the senator to comply with the chamber’s regulations. Senate President Akpabio upheld the order and reminded all senators to abide by the established guidelines.
