Senate to honour tanker driver for bravery in averting tragic incident
The Senate has recommended one Ejiro Otarigho, a tanker driver in Delta State, for National Honours, for averting a tragic incident that would have led to the loss of several lives in the Agbarho community in Delta State.
Ejiro had last week driven a burning tanker from a danger zone for 25 minutes from a densely populated area to Agbarho River, where the tanker was completely razed by the inferno.
The video of the incident which went viral on social media caught the attention of the lawmakers.
The motion recommending Ejiro to President Muhammadu Buhari for National Honours was moved by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, representing Delta Central, and co-sponsored by Senator James Manager and Senator Peter Nwaoboshi
on Tuesday.
Senator Omo-Agege noted that Ejiro’s courage averted a major national tragedy and mourning.
The Senate resolved to invite Mr Ejiro Otarigho to the Chamber of the Senate, for public commendation by the President of the Senate, as well as National Honor for his extraordinary act of bravery, courage and skill, that prevented the loss of human lives and properties.
