Senate Responds to Allegations of Neglect During Late Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah’s Burial

The Senate has refuted claims that it neglected its duties during the burial of its late member, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, calling the reports false. In a statement, Yemi Adaramodu, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Publicity, clarified that the Senate had fulfilled all the necessary honors for the late senator, both before and during his burial in Nnewi on Friday.

Adaramodu pointed out that, for the first time in the history of the National Assembly, a full legislative day was dedicated to paying tributes to Senator Ubah. He explained that Ubah’s seat in the Senate was draped with the national flag, a mark of respect acknowledging his contributions to both the Senate and his constituents. The Senate, according to Adaramodu, had not abandoned the late senator or his family from the moment of his passing, and had instead expressed condolences to the people and government of Anambra State.

He also highlighted that Senate President Godswill Akpabio had led a high-level delegation of Senate officers to the late senator’s Lagos residence to offer condolences to his widow and children. Additionally, nearly 100 senators attended a special valedictory session held in Ubah’s honor, where tributes were paid by various dignitaries, including Vice President Kashim Shettima. These actions, the Senate stated, clearly demonstrated its respect for Ubah’s legacy as a philanthropist, businessman, and politician.

In response to the allegations, Adaramodu stressed that a substantial number of Senate members had attended Ubah’s burial in Nnewi, further reaffirming the Senate’s commitment to honoring him. He criticized those behind the misleading reports, suggesting that they expected a dramatic display at the funeral, which he described as unrealistic. Adaramodu concluded by calling the accusation that the Senate had failed in its role to honor Ubah’s memory “preposterous,” firmly defending the institution’s actions.
