Sen. Abdul Ningi Insists: N3.7 Trillion in 2024 Budget Not Allocated to Projects
In a heated exchange yesterday, Senator Abdul Ningi, Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum (NSF) and former Deputy Senate Leader, faced off with fellow senators over his claim that N3.7 trillion from the 2024 budget is not allocated to any specific project.
In a press conference in Abuja, Senator Ningi stood firm on his assertion, reiterating remarks made in a BBC Hausa Service interview where he alleged a disparity between the National Assembly-passed budget of N25 trillion and the Presidency’s implementation of N28.7 trillion.
Undeterred by potential Senate suspension, Senator Ningi expressed readiness to face the consequences, emphasizing his commitment to his statement. He maintained that power is transient and affirmed his belief in one God.
Disputing the notion that he suggested the Federal Government operates two budgets, Ningi clarified that he highlighted the lack of project association for N3.7 trillion within the 2024 budget. He explained ongoing budget evaluation and revealed the Northern Senators’ intention to present their findings to the Senate President and subsequently meet with President Bola Tinubu.
In a closing statement, Senator Ningi asserted, “I’m not scared of any issue like suspension. If because I said what I would say, then I will be suspended, so be it. It will be an honour.”
