Security Tightened at U.S. Capitol After Iranian Strikes Hit American Embassy in Kuwait

Security has been reinforced at the United States Capitol following Iranian missile attacks that struck the United States Embassy in Kuwait amid rising tensions in the Middle East.

A source familiar with the matter told CNN that the embassy compound was impacted during bombardment carried out Sunday and Monday. A U.S. official confirmed there were no reported injuries but declined to say whether the facility sustained a direct hit.

The extent of the damage remains unclear. Smoke was reportedly seen near the compound on Monday, prompting concern for diplomatic personnel and residents in surrounding areas.

In a security alert issued Monday, the embassy warned of an ongoing threat of missile and unmanned aerial vehicle attacks across Kuwait. American citizens were urged to remain indoors and avoid travel to the embassy.

“There is a continuing threat of missile and UAV attacks over Kuwait,” the alert stated.

The embassy directed individuals to shelter on the lowest level of their residence, away from windows, and advised against going outdoors. Embassy staff were instructed to shelter in place.

In a subsequent advisory, the mission announced the suspension of all visa services and American Citizen Services appointments until further notice due to the evolving security environment.

In Washington, officials moved to heighten security around the Capitol complex as a precaution. A person familiar with the situation said the steps are consistent with standard procedures during periods of geopolitical tension.

In a notice to members of the House of Representatives, the Office of the Sergeant at Arms said it is coordinating with the United States Capitol Police and other law enforcement and intelligence agencies to monitor developments linked to the Middle East conflict.

The notice said there would be an increased security presence across the Capitol grounds. Authorities emphasized that no specific or credible threats to the Capitol have been identified at this time.
