Security Forces Rescue 13 Kidnapped Passengers in Benue
Thirteen passengers of Benue Links who were kidnapped at Eke in Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State have been rescued in a joint operation by security forces and local vigilantes.
The chairman of Okpokwu LGA, Adah Inalegwu, confirmed the rescue on Sunday, saying that the police and vigilantes mounted sustained pressure on the kidnappers, combing the surrounding forests. This led to the release of two hostages on Saturday. Inalegwu explained that the support of youths from neighbouring Kogi State increased the pressure on the kidnappers, forcing them to abandon the remaining eleven victims at Oando village around 4:00 pm on Sunday.
He credited the provision of logistics by Governor Hyacinth Alia and enhanced security surveillance for the success of the operation. The rescued passengers are currently being profiled before they are reunited with their families.
