Rivers State Assembly Confirms Governor Fubara’s Commissioner Nominee
The Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Victor Oko-Jumbo, held a plenary session on Monday and confirmed Governor Siminialayi Fubara’s commissioner nominee, Emmanuel Onengiye-Ofori Frank-Fubara.
The confirmation process commenced after Governor Fubara sent a letter to the Assembly, requesting the confirmation of Frank-Fubara as a commissioner in the Rivers State Executive Council. Oko-Jumbo read the letter during the plenary, held at the temporary facility in Government House, Port Harcourt, citing Section 192 of the 1999 Constitution as amended.
During the screening, Frank-Fubara highlighted his 26-year legal career, stating he has been managing his private legal practice in Port Harcourt since being called to the bar in 1998. He also noted his extensive experience serving on various public sector boards and committees, promising to bring this expertise to his new role and to serve with unwavering commitment.
Following the confirmation, the Assembly resumed its plenary session, debating two significant bills: the Rivers State Emergency Management Agency Bill, 2024, and the Rivers State Transport Company Reform Bill, 2024. Both bills passed their second readings and were sent to the committee stage for detailed examination. The committees were instructed to conduct public hearings and report back to the House within two weeks.
The confirmation of Frank-Fubara and the advancement of these bills signify ongoing legislative activities in Rivers State aimed at enhancing governance and public service delivery.
