Rivers State APC Executives Reject Party’s Controversial Dissolution

The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) witnessed turmoil as the National Working Committee executed the dissolution of its executives, replacing them with a caretaker committee.

Rivers APC Chairman, Emeka Beke, expressed his ignorance regarding the dissolution, stating, “I’m not even aware of the dissolution, but I’m out of the country right now. I’ll talk to you when we have more details about the issue,” on Wednesday night.

Contrary to Beke’s stance, APC Publicity Secretary, Darlington Nwauju, asserted, “Our legal adviser, Chairman, and the state executives hereby reject the dissolution because it is illegal and cannot stand.” When questioned about potential legal action, Nwauju remained tight-lipped, emphasizing the sensitivity of their plans.

Notably, the party’s governorship candidate in the 2023 election, Tonye Cole, and former governor Rotimi Amaechi have remained silent on the matter.

In contrast, the newly appointed caretaker committee chairman, Tony Okocha, who also serves on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) board, refused to engage with journalists, stating that he awaits his inauguration on Friday. The unfolding situation raises questions about the internal dynamics within the Rivers APC and the potential legal battles that may ensue.
