Rivers Crisis: Wike Taunts Fubara, Says ‘You’re Already Down 2-0, More to Come’
Former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has taken a swipe at his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, declaring that there are no signs he will succeed in office. Addressing a large crowd of his supporters in the state on Saturday, Wike accused Fubara of surrounding himself with individuals who do not have the best interests of Rivers State at heart.
Wike claimed these same individuals had previously sought the governorship position at all costs before he chose Fubara instead. He criticized the governor for now aligning with them, saying their influence is detrimental to the state’s progress.
Mocking the governor’s recent political setbacks, Wike likened the situation to a football match, stating Fubara was already “down 2-0.” He was referring to the Supreme Court ruling that directed the governor to re-present the 2025 budget to the Martin Amaewhule-led 27 lawmakers and to reconduct local government elections.
“You surrounded yourself with people who wanted to be governor, whom I said ‘no, these people don’t mean well for Rivers State.’ They are the ones advising you now. Do you think you will succeed?” Wike asked, adding, “They will give bad advice, and look at what bad advice is doing to you. You are already down 2-0, and there’s more to come.”
