Rival Cult Groups Clash in Rivers, Leaving Two Dead and One Injured
Two people have been shot dead and another critically injured following a violent clash between rival cult groups in the Ngo and Unyengala communities of Andoni Local Government Area, Rivers State.
The confrontation, which began on Sunday and continued into Monday, is reported to have been driven by a struggle for territorial control and supremacy between the gangs. Residents recounted hearing gunfire and fleeing in fear as the violence unfolded. One eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said many people ran for safety before discovering the fatalities.
The Rivers State Police Command confirmed the incident. Spokesperson SP Grace Iringe-Koko stated that two individuals were killed and one critically injured, attributing the violence to the ongoing rivalry between the cult groups. She added that security has been strengthened in the area, calm has been restored, and investigations are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible.
