Retired Nigerian Court of Appeal Justice, Ahmad Olanrewaju Belgore, is Dead

In a solemn announcement on Tuesday, Kamaldeen Gambari, the Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association, Ilorin Branch, Kwara State, shared the news of the demise of retired Justice Ahmad Olanrewaju Belgore.

Belgore, who served as a Justice of the Court of Appeal, breathed his last, leaving behind a legacy of service and dedication to the legal profession.

“Information reaching me now indicates that Hon. Justice Ahmad Olarewaju Belgore, PCJA (retd.) is dead. May Allah forgive his shortcomings,” expressed Gambari in a social media post.

Belgore’s illustrious career culminated with his retirement from the Court of Appeal on April 18, 2023, upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 70.

Tributes poured in from various quarters, with the Emir of Ilorin and Chairman, Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, extending his condolences and acknowledging Belgore’s significant contributions.

In a statement by his spokesperson, Abdulazeez Arowona, the Emir remarked, “This is a great and colossal loss that has befallen the Ilorin Emirate and humanity at large. He was a complete gentleman, a thorough judicial officer who served the nation meritoriously in various capacities, nationally and internationally.”

Justice Belgore’s demise marks the end of an era for the legal fraternity, leaving behind a void that will be felt deeply by those who knew and worked alongside him. The Emir extended his sympathies to Belgore’s family and the entire community of Ilorin, as well as all Nigerians mourning the loss of a distinguished jurist.
