Retired Headmistress Slumps, Dies During Retirement Ceremony in Osun
In a heartbreaking turn of events, Mrs. Dupe Omowumi Bello, a recently retired headmistress, collapsed and died during her retirement ceremony in Ilesa, Osun State. The incident occurred on April 9, 2025, at the School for the Physically Challenged, Enu Odi, where she had served with dedication and compassion throughout her career.
The event was organized to celebrate her decades of service in the education sector. Colleagues, students, and well-wishers had gathered to honour her legacy and bid her farewell. Mrs. Bello, widely respected for her commitment to the welfare of her students, arrived at the venue in high spirits, joining a musical procession with smiles and dances that reflected the joyful mood of the occasion.
Eyewitnesses described the atmosphere as cheerful until the unexpected happened. After taking her seat at the high table beside her husband, Mrs. Bello suddenly appeared to be in distress. Onlookers said she looked fatigued and was struggling to breathe. Immediate efforts were made to revive her as she received first aid at the scene.
She was quickly rushed to the Ijesaland Geriatric Centre, where medical personnel referred her to Wesley Guild Hospital in Ilesa. Tragically, she was pronounced dead on arrival.
